Bathroom Remodeling in DC, MD & VA

Whether a morning person or a night owl, your master bathroom is pretty close to the first and last place you spend any time each day. We live hectic lives in the 21st century. When my day starts at odark30 each morning, my eyes are barely even able to focus on the clock when my Blackberry automatically turns itself on to tell me that I have multiple phone, email, text, facebook, Blackberry text, weather alerts, traffic alerts, news alerts - need I say more! Funny thing is that I cleared the darn thing of all that info at 11pm the night before!

It used to be that one would have to walk into the master bathroom at these awful early or late hours, half asleep only to walk onto a cold tile or stone floor, flip on the (very (VERY) bright lights), sit on a cold toilet seat, wait for water to warm up for a shave or shower and be very literally thrust into or away from our day! This need be no more!

I invite you into the master bath of today. The first thing you notice is turning on the lights. Employing the use of task specific Lutron dimmers, we will make it so that your eyes are not jarred open by an immediate flood of light. These dimmers bring the light up or down at a pace that allows your eyes to adjust.

Next, is the feel of warmth on your feet as you step onto the tile or stone floor that has been heated by an electric mat prior to the finished floor being installed. We install these heat mats under all of the bathroom and shower floors so that wherever you walk you are not jolted awake by a room temperature floor that feels 30 degrees colder.

In the winter time for the last 20 years, my wife and I have argued over who has to get out of bed first to warm up the toilet seat. When we remodel we will be sure to employ heated toilet seats by Ultra-Touch™. They plug into any 120v wall socket and are transformed down to low voltage through a supplied transformer. They are energy efficient and comfortable. Along with the seat is one of the best toilets on the market made by TOTO®. These toilets are state of the art in that they have the quietest refill and flush operations, largest discharge openings on the market preventing stoppage and quiet close lid technology that prevents slamming a seat at any time.

Depending on available space, a master bath should have a large soaking bath - preferably with its own water heater and massaging air jets. Because of the vast selection on the market today, your imagination is the limit to the possibilities of shape, color, design and size for these kinds of soaking baths. Available also today are soaking baths that allow for all kinds of access. You need not be concerned about your ability to get into or out of your bath because today there are design features that are available from a number of manufacturers that make entry and exit from your bath a pleasure.

This is not your father's shower stall! Showers of old used to be relegated to an on/off hot/cold handle along with a measly shower head that dumped a cold shot of water on you when you first turned it on. Today manufacturers such as Grohe, Hans Grohe, Kohler, Boffi, Rohl, KWC, Jado and Steam Mist are but a few of the most recognizable names in high end plumbing fixtures. Fixtures from these manufacturers are able to make the shower an enchanting place. Instead of a single shower head you now shower from as many shower heads as you like. Many showers are designed for two where you can have a traditional shower head at each end of the shower, a hand held head unit, an overhead "rain" head, body sprays and diverters that control which heads work at which times. Most women prefer to shave in the shower so we always recommend allowing space for a bench seat that does not interfere with other normal shower activities. Our clients also appreciate the use of their Steam Mist® steam units. Turning this device on a few minutes prior to taking your shower provides either the relaxing your muscles need to face the day or rest for the night. Electronically operated right from a UL approved fixture right inside the shower allows you to control the unit function without leaving the shower. Imagine a place where you can actually complete a thought!

Like other parts of our lives, products that we use every day in our bathrooms need electricity. To avoid the usual clutter from various curling irons, shavers, hair dryers etc., from running across the counter, we install outlets inside the drawers of our vanities so that when the appliance is not in use it is out of sight.

The vanity, countertop, lighting, window dressings and fixtures must all complement one another in style, finish and coordination. That sleek minimalist Italian glass vanity might look wonderful on a magazine page, but it may not meet the practicial, day to day needs of your lifestyle. This is where our design help will cause you to think through the entire process of how you use your bath and what are "must haves" and what are items that though nice, might not make the cut. Consider the following amenities when designing your bathroom:

  • Lutron light Dimmers
  • Steam Mist Shower steam units
  • Heated Towel Bars
  • No Fog Mirrors
  • Heated Toilet Seats
  • Heated Floors
  • A/V systems
  • Power Automated Window Shades
  • Ultra Quiet Exhaust Fans
  • Cast Glass Shower Enclosures

Should you decide not to employ the use of any of these items, the idea that you at least considered them is useful so that you do not have to worry about completing the project and realizing that there were such options. Next to the kitchen, your master bathroom has the more components per square foot than any other room in the house. We recommend that you take the time to carefully consider all your options to ensure that the finished product is exactly what you dream it will be. That said, let's go design and build that bath!
